Shah Latif Cultural Institute of Texas (SLCIT) is a (501) (c)(3) nonprofit community organization established in 2015. The institute is named after the famous Sindhi Poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, widely considered greatest poet of Sindhi language.

Shah Bhittai preached love, peace, and tolerance, irrespective of caste or creed through his poetry, which is greatly, admired all over the world. The mission of the Institute is driven from the values promoted in Shah Latif’s poetry “to develop the center to promote the culture and cultural activities among at-large communities for harmony, peace, and tolerance”.

The role of SLCIT is of great importance for civic education, that way individuals and groups can function as an active, informed and culturally noble persons. The goal of SLCIT is to keep the community close to human values in light of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s messages. Besides, it is important to engage younger generation to remember the efforts, heritage, and culture of the ancestors.

SLCIT has arranged many annual activities to not only promote the culture but engage community in dialogue through art and cultural education, special sessions/lectures, and other community engagement events.

SLCIT partners with many other community organizations such as The Citizen Foundation, Helping Hand, and ICNA to support community development activities.

. We will continue to promote a rich and vibrant culture that will expand the community’s awareness and appreciation of Sindhi culture through an engaging series of exhibits, programs, and special events.
